Americano

Think of it like this: espresso is the concentrate. Hot water turns it into a long drink without burying the flavor. You still get the espresso punch—just with room to breathe.

Ingredients

  • Filtered water
  • Coffee beans (fresh if possible)

Optional

  • Milk of Choice
  • Sweetener of choice

Instructions

  • Grind your beans. Measure about 18g of coffee and grind fine—similar to table salt.
  • Preheat your mug. Fill it with hot water, let it sit for 20–30 seconds, dump it. This keeps your drink from cooling off immediately.
  • Pull your espresso shot. Extract a double shot (about 2 oz / 60 ml).
  • Heat your water. You’ll want roughly 130–160g hot water for a standard Americano—less for stronger, more for lighter.
  • Build the drink. Add hot water to the mug, then add espresso. (This helps preserve crema a bit better.)
  • Optional tweaks. A splash of milk or sweetener is fair game—just don’t turn it into something it isn’t.
  • Stir and drink. That’s it. Simple, sharp, and built for people who like coffee to taste like coffee.
