Warm French Press

Heating a French press before brewing helps maintain the water temperature, ensuring optimal extraction of flavors from the coffee grounds.  Boil Water, pour, & set to the side.  You’ll want to begin heating your kettle of filtered water now.

Measure Beans

We’re using a 16.5:1 ratio.  That means for every gram of coffee we’re using 16.5 grams of water.  We encourage you to start with a 15:1 ratio and experiment with what you like!  For Example, if you’re looking for at least 2 cups of coffee use this:
30 Grams of Coffee

500 Grams of Filtered Water

Grind & Distribute

Try grinding your coffee to just over medium which will look a bit larger than table salt.  Pour out the water used to warm French Press & distribute the grounds at the bottom of your French Press so that you have an even bed.

Add Water Evenly

Heating a French press before brewing helps maintain the water temperature, ensuring optimal extraction of flavors from the coffee grounds.  Boil Water, pour, & set to the side

Stir & Steep

At the 4 minute mark, stir the coffee.  If you notice any coffee grinds floating at the top you can remove with a spoon.  Place the plunger in the french press just above the liquid.

Press & Enjoy!

At 7 minutes slowly press the plunger down until you’re just above the coffee bed.  Avoid pressing the bed as this will disrupt the bed which will add unwanted sludge to your finish product.

Now, it’s time to pour and enjoy!

FAQ:

Why should I preheat my French press before brewing coffee?

Preheating your French press helps maintain the water temperature during brewing, which ensures optimal extraction of flavors from the coffee grounds, resulting in a richer and more balanced cup of coffee.

What is the ideal coffee-to-water ratio for a French press?

The ideal coffee-to-water ratio for a French press is typically 1:15. This means using 1 gram of coffee for every 15 grams (or milliliters) of water. For a standard 1-liter French press, this would be about 67 grams of coffee.

How do I clean and maintain my French press to ensure the best tasting coffee?

To clean and maintain your French press, disassemble the plunger and wash all parts with warm, soapy water after each use. Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue. Regularly check and replace the mesh filter if it becomes damaged or worn to ensure consistent brewing quality.
